Something else i thought of is that sw7s are pretty good with salvo ships eg isds with 2 blues and a red for making the salvo damage harder to deal with.
I still dont think they would be my first pick, but i think theres something there to think about.
@Bertie Wooster Granted, on the all or nearly all blue dice ships. But that's already their niche, because it's great dice control for CR90Bs and stuff under Sato.
If the point isn't to take it on an ISD-2, SSD, etc. then I don't see how the situation for SW-7s has really changed.
Thermal Shields hurt SW-7s a bit because very few ships exceed 50% blue dice armament per shot.
That might seem to weaken almost all ion cannons, but most of them are dependent on 1 blue die to work, so QBT or Swivels can feed Leading Shots, or Screed/Kraken/Malee (I guess) can enable crits.
SW-7 is just bad in that situation. I guess I wouldn't hate it the rest of the time, but your opponent gains the same or greater benefits from evade or PDIons going after any red dice. It's just less safe *if* you didn't roll doubles.
I'm also finding that with CR90 Bs and Sato MC80s I'm starting to lean away from HIE and towards SW-7s. I find it somewhat satisfying to almost completely negate the evades at medium and close range. Especially vs those circumstances where my opponent manages to shut down my blue crit.
PDICs and SW7s take up the same slot. Have any ships got double ion cannon upgrade slots?
SW7s got a slight improvement as the ever popular leading shots has a point increase. Thermal Shields and Barris spend their defense tokens before accuracies can be spent so SW7s can get you some use out of accuracies in this situation.

Pretty sure his point was PDIC vs SW-7 - not on the same ship but defender/attacker.

Thermalshermals makes SW-7s even better on the right ships. You cut my CR90B's three blue dice down to two? Now I REALLY don't need accuracies!

Point defense ion cannons looks like another toy that favors SW-7s. Not to mention really hurts black dice...
