Happy Friday all! I finally got it early enough to (hopefully) accomodate our brethren further east.
Question of the week: Who liked the Bad Batch? Who liked the idea of the chips? Please avoid spoilers, for the sake of those who haven't watched it!
Star Wars: Armada
I like the Republic->Empire transitional focus, and I find some developments surrounding the rank-and-file clones and Kamino to be intriguing. I think the inhibitor chips are a good way to explain why units like the 104th ("Plo's Bros") or the 212th would follow through with the order and adds to the tragedy of the clones as effectively child soldiers stripped of free will and bred for war, but I find the application in the show for "you-know-what" to be pretty hand-wavy for purposes of drama.
I think Omega is handled well, and given Filoni's track record with developing Ahsoka, I'm not too worried about her inclusion.
First a quick disclaimer :D : I don't wanna go on ranting, and haven't even seen Bad Batch, but I certainly didn't like the idea in the 7th season of CW.
1) Story-wise it felt very flat. (Special squad came in, solve the problem, a bit of a conflict between the good guys, but happy end, and a someone who is supposed to be dead returned. )
2) Actually at that point I was pretty fed up with CW anyway, so I didn't expect much...
3) If you are speaking about order 66 style chips, I hate that idea altogether(when it came up in earlier CW episodes), and I think in the Republic Commando book series (written by Karen Traviss, and excellent piece of SW stuff) explained it much-much better. (I hope I didn't spoiled anything)
(If the sequel itself is better, than I'm happy to revise my opinion)
I've found the show to be surprisingly compelling, despite the somewhat shallow nature of most of the bad batch, however I fear that omega is going to ruin a lot of the show for me. Whenever shes speaking I just want to turn it off. Completely kills any atmosphere and enjoyment for me :(
