Trigger warning: This post is about replacing mini sized Cards with standard cards. You negative Niktos out there who hate the new size just hold your tongues...or gills or whatever 😜😜😜
Anyway...I originally bought two Upgrade Card packs to try and replace the quantity of duplicates I had in the mini size (I'd prefer not to mix when I can). I have a lovely,immensely-dense, complicated spreadsheet that lists exactly what I have of each.
The question: do we think future waves will continue to give copies of older cards like the GAR/CIS starter sets did with Aux. Shield Teams, Heavy Ion Emplacements, etc. OR should I maybe buy one more card pack when I can?
Part of me thinks I'll fill out the generic holes eventually with future waves, and the other half of me knows I'll only get specifics like superweapons or interdictor upgrades through another pack (for those few occasions when the triple Starhawk & Onager games rear their beautiful heads).
Thoughts?
And if the Negative Niktos are still reading, I'm still sticking with my MINI-sized damage decks, so there!
VIC-Is and torp HHs would probably like swivel guns too. Might try a test game and see how it works.
I have a feeling SMB is Clone Wars only because the general batteries are weaker. Lore wise, you could argue that during the CW most batteries were fixed, so SMB are a novelty that has to be explicitly added, whereas by the time of the GCW every ship had them so they no longer need to be specified.
That would also explain why the dice pools in CW ships are generally weaker than GCW ships - GCW ships have SMBs already factored in.
I agree with @Herr Style. I think it’s very likely that the new ships will give us upgrades in the new size, as appropriate to the ship they’re packaged with (so yeah, if you’re looking for more Superweapon upgrades and Experimental Retrofits, I wouldn’t hold your breath). Cards like Electronic Countermeasures, Boosted Comms, and other commonly-used generic upgrades, I would expect to see with the wave 10 ships. I also agree with Mr. Style that it makes absolutely no sense that Swivel Mount Batteries are CW only, and also think that the newer, larger upgrades are easier on my failing eyes.
As an aside, I recently picked up FFG’s wonderful and super-fun Journeys in Middle-earth game, and my only complaint was that the cards are all the size of the tiny old Armada upgrade cards, and I literally had to schedule a long-overdue eye appointment and get my first pair of glasses so that I could enjoy the game without asking my wife WTF the cards said every five seconds.
The cards could be letter/A4 size and I’d still forget to use them. I for one will probably start using the big ones and my new damage deck because of my poor failing eyes lol. With regards to the new waves regurgitating old upgrades, yes, I think they will. I would be slightly peeved if all that the new waves produced where 30 year old “super upgrades” that the more recent GCW ships didn’t have. I was a bit surprised to see that SMB’s are Clone Wars only. What should have been restricted was like they are, the Clone and Droid only upgrades. It would be nice to see in future GCW waves, GCW only upgrades as that technology would not have been available for the Clone era.
