This. I want to pick up some minis from Mels to serve as NPCs, but the game doesn't really support this at the moment. Do any of the current objectives use tokens in place of dummy ships? I can't think of any.
I intend to create a home brew campaign that mixes Legion and Armada, and ideally IA and X-Wing as well, in a Galaxy At War style game (but turn based).I only play Armada right now, and though I hope to get into Legion, and I can use Legion models with IA rules, I don't really intend to get into X-Wing, so I don't know how well it will turn out. . .
Recusant Support at that price... men this is mean... 90 + ExH(5) + BC(4) + FC(6) + LTT (7) = 112 pts... and you have Tri Fighetrs rollin 5 dice each and Red Flak...
One point more than a CR90A and it gets +1 red out the back, +1 hull and a front shield. Obviously you loose the speed but get a brace. I like them. No weapon type upgrades. Keep them cheap with say Munitions/Parts Resupply, SFO and maybe FCT or Aux Shields. They can help others and easily look after themselves or shuffle a couple of fighters. Remember Motti & penta-VIC? well you can take 8 of these and Tarkin each repairing 3 shields a turn. 😀
Venator-I.
It's a Speed 3 VSD with a few extras? Great defense tokens but no ECM option so probably want to keep the total points below 110. Reasonable squadron value with Flight Controllers and Boosted Comms or Ex Hangar bay but the Venator-II will probably do that role better with its Squadron 5 value. So maybe its more of a budget Kuat style brawler with E-Rax or ACMs, OE and LTT to make the rerolls happen especially in Salvo.
Republic still hasn't seen a double redirect ship yet. Kenobi therefore is a little sub par.
Providence-CV class.
Looking potent with plenty of dice and a defense slot so you can feel comfortable adding more upgrades. Multicolored dice and all three slots for Lasers, Ions & Ordnance can make it a nasty ship to be double arced by. Could be used as a carrier but no Flight controllers. The Providence-DN class can take FC (but unsure of the squad value). Maybe just put Hyperwave signal on it ad throw in Vultures turn 2 then do other commands and leave it to the squadron phase for the rest of the game.
Recusant Sup-DD.
Saved the best until last, I love this ship. Looks like it has a combined Quasar + Arquitens role to flank the enemy lobbing in red dice and the super wide front arc means double arcing targets off your 10 o'clock position will be great. If an Arquitens double arcs a target it usually ends up in the guys lap next turn but not this baby. An excellent nav chart at speed 3 means a single nav token banked should do you for the whole game while you orbit, shoot and activate lots of fighters using boosted comms, Ex Hangar bay and Flight controllers. A bonus is the Red Flak, add an LTT for anti ship, anti squad and salvo fire rerolls.
@rmcarrier1 I don think so. They mentioned in the stream that product development takes anywhere between 18 and 24 months and that this is also the reason why all 2021 product is still gonna have the FFG label
@kkj It would seem likely that at least something was in flight, especially given that the CW releases saw some production delays, so they could have been cooking up rules for at least one more wave that had gone to prototype in that time frame. Obviously we will have to see, but a lot of stuff would be missing that are pretty obvious designs (Dreadnought, Malevolence/Subjugator, LucreHulk, many fighters and small units, Naboo craft, Arquitens, etc).
I came away from that stream feeling pretty good about the future of the Star Wars games. Weekly streams! Yes please. Very cool. Possible new ways to play sounds cool too.
@rmcarrier1 But does this imply there was more developed by FFG that hasn't been announced yet, for later in the year? No new AMG developed stuff, but potentially another wave with FFG labels for later in the year with additional ships, squadrons... maybe?
Well I'm not so sure about Item #5. New Star Wars content is still being released on FFG's website (though Atomic Mass Games is also more proactively promoting Star Wars content on its Twitter feed now).
We shouldn‘t mix what we would wish to get and what is likely to come. AMG seemed surprised with the announcement only about 2 months ago that they will develop three SW miniatures games. I also heared that FFG had no projects in development for Armada after wave 10. I would bet my money that we don‘t get any new ships or expansions revealed. All we can expect is a sort of roadmap where they want to go with the games. And I would be satisfied if they do that, not only giving us business-phrases about how shiny and good the future will be.
@Triangularer thank you for the quick answer. However, I think "no current playtesting" and "nothing in development" are two different categories. One might assume that development has to be close to be finished when playtesting starts.
Nevertheless, I think that you are right that today is less about announcing new products, and more about announcing product strategies. We might see a bit more content revealed for Wave 10 to appease the crowd, but that's most likely it. Maybe, X-Wing and Legion get proper announcement if they haven't got any in the last two months (don't know). But for us? Unlikely.
@Darth Veggie yeah, I kind of assume that unless they had some internal goodies already queued up, Armada will go on the backburner again, while they figure out what to do with it next.
A tease for Lucrehulks and/or Malevolence, would be cool. But where to go with the GAR forces? More little ships, such as the Dreadnaught (or AFMKI), GAR Victory, etc. But will we see a huge counter for the LucreHulk and/or Malevolence, such as a Chancellor class or something similar?
@AzraelBlackstar Interesting. Didn't about that ship. I assume it falls under the "fanon" catergory right? Or was this at one point a offical concept art?
@kkj I mean, there really are a good number of CW era ships they COULD do, and at least 3 fighter packs worth of goodies (less CIS, as they really kind of covered the major stuff, but more Republic worlds such as Naboo, and miscellaneous shuttles and transports, rogues, and whatnot. Definitely one more dedicated GAR one though, as they are missing stuff like Z95's, LAAT, and Eta2's, like previously mentioned...). Maybe we'll see some kind of odd release with a second republic fighter pack with the Malevolence or LucreHulks in a wave...
If there is even any kind of plan, haha, or additional releases beyond 10 that have been developed/tested. AMG seemed a little surprised by the whole thing as well...
@kkj Yes, and of course the Maelstrom is apparently now Canon, so that is more likely (and should be). Same concept though; large fleet command dreadnoughts/battleships. Dreadnaughts were the heavy cruisers of the fleet, and Maelstroms were the battlecruisers/battleships, with the Venators being the line carriers and general purpose crusiers, Arquittens and to a lesser extent Peltas being light cruisers, Consulars as frigates/light destroyers, and Acclamators being assault/battle barges and drop-carriers.
Maelstrom is a good fit, it's Canon, and would be a cool chance at a new design that FFG can put out there to act as a balance/foil for LucreHulks and Malevolence.
I'm hoping that we might get some kind of preview for future waves in addition to some info on Wave 10, kind of like how Wave 10 was teased as we were learning more about Wave 9.
Yeah, maybe. My hope will be they lay out at least some inkling of strategy, and don't announce a reboot, 2.0 edition, or anything stupid like that (because poof! like that your player base evaporates). I don't mind them changing up the release pattern/schedule, doing more smaller waves, etc, and riding out the queue that was already set to roll out while they get their sea-legs, then maybe getting a 2.0 rejigger off the ground and tuning things up sometime in the next few years.
I’m staying at 400 points so envisage having no more than 3, maybe 4 in a list. Also, Hardcells will be 4-6. You never know what cards will come with these individual ships (think back to MC30’s before the upgrade card pack and APT’s and TRC’s only available with this model). Plus my limited budget, as I need to pay for at least one Providence and definitely one, if not more Recusants!
Just one more??? I have two and want a third. But I'll wait for another munificent till there is an individual option.
However, other than the fact that it would have new upgrades and stuff and now that we see how much more the prices are, (Largest were 40 and now they are 65) it would be way more cost effective to buy another core and sell the stuff I don't want. I mean the individual mediums are going to be at least $50, probably $55. A bigger small is now $40 so...
T-minus two days. Cautiously, I'm assuming we'll get a closer look at Wave 10 and nothing more (in addition to anything pending for Legion or X-Wing). Optimistically, I'm hoping for some sort of road map, even if only for the remainder of the year.
I'm hoping that they were able to convince one designer to move to the new studio and this is the even they use to show us there will be some contiguity in the design process. I sort of doubt it judging by how the transfer was done and the fact they haven't mentioned specifically any of the prior team being involved yet...
I have to admit, I’ve been counseling patience and optimism regarding the FFG -> AMG transition, but I was starting to get nervous myself, given the lack of any news at all regarding the futures X-Wing and Armada. It’s great to hear that there will be some news!
i hope for some scenarios like “defend the cargo ships” or “capture a senator or high ranking imperial.”
I intend to create a home brew campaign that mixes Legion and Armada, and ideally IA and X-Wing as well, in a Galaxy At War style game (but turn based). I only play Armada right now, and though I hope to get into Legion, and I can use Legion models with IA rules, I don't really intend to get into X-Wing, so I don't know how well it will turn out. . .
I am honestly really hoping we get 2-3 new play styles released this year.
I would desperately love to see a miniatures rpg style format for Armada. Think Imperial Assault with Armada ships.

Any news if The old peltas can be used?
Thoughts on the new ships:
Pelta Med FF.

I am curious to see if they really create some new and exciting formats to play.

Anything exciting happen?
Hopefully this is the first of many and frequent announcements.

Yep, I'm gonna need at least 8 more Munificents to recreate the really big battles.
I’d like to know when the Core set ships get released as individual ones too. I’m a hairbreadth away from getting a second Separatist Core set lol
